In 13. or 14. hundred the daoist monk Chang San Feng is said to have lived in Wu-Tang Mountain. He is said to have merged various different fighting styles and be the originator of Tai Chi Chuan
Yang Lu Chan
(1799-1872)
Yang Lu Chan („the invincible“) learnt the fighting art of the Chen family but modified is heavily, thus creating the Yang family style
Yang Cheng Fu
(1883-1936)
Yang Chen Fu, the grandson of Yang Lu Chan, taught Tai Chi big-time in the open. Therefore he created a version of the original form for the public, nowadays known as Tiger or Crane style or as "student style". The inner family style, the Snake Style, he passed on only to his son Yang Sau Chung.
Yang Sau Chung
(1910-1985)
Yang Sau Chung, oldest son of Yang Cheng Fu, begann began his training at the age of 8. With 14 years he assisted his father teaching, at the age of 19 he traveled across china, helping his father teaching the student-style to the people. He formulated the 13 priciples, detailing the 10 principles of his father a bit more. He passed on the Snake-Style to his oldest disciple, Ip Tai Tak
Ip Tai Tak
(1929 - 2004)
Ip Tai Tak the 1. disciple of Yang Sau Chung trained for 24 years with him. He lived and trained in Hong Kong, and took John Ding as his 1. and Bob Boyd as his 2. disciple. Bob Boyd received the complete Snake-Style transmission with the permission to teach this style worldwide openly to all interested tai chi practitioners.
Bob Boyd (1949*)
Bob Boyd was taken as Ip Tai Taks second disciple and received the complete Snake-Style transmission with the permission to teach this style worldwide openly to all interested tai chi practitioners.
Compared on an outside level, the Snake-Style and other Yang Tai Chi Styles appear quite similar, but the Snake Style has a much deeper effect on the body, health benefit and the martial aspects. Bob Left the singular disciple lineage, basically taking all his students up as disciples, teaching the Snake-Style system openly without prejudice.
